The Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka (IESL) successfully concluded the IESL Cricket Fiesta 2025, the largest outdoor sporting event of the Sri Lankan engineering fraternity, on Saturday, 24 January 2026, at the historic Bloomfield Cricket and Athletic Club Grounds, Colombo. The day-long tournament brought together engineers from all nine provinces, reinforcing unity, teamwork, and professional camaraderie through the spirit of cricket

Organised by the IESL Sports Club, the second edition of the annual extravaganza was held under the theme “Engineering the Cricketing Spirit.” The event, originally scheduled for November 2025, was responsibly postponed due to the island-wide impacts of the Ditwah Cyclone, reflecting IESL’s commitment to safety and social responsibility

The opening ceremony was graced by Mr. Dasun Shanaka, Captain of the Sri Lanka T20 Cricket Team and ICC T20 World Cup 2025 player, as the Chief Guest. His presence added prestige and inspiration to the occasion, especially for the participating engineers. The hoisting of the National Flag, the IESL flag, and the observance of a minute’s silence in remembrance of lives lost during the recent disaster set a dignified and reflective tone to the event

Nine teams representing the provincial chapters competed in a fast-paced, well-organised tournament played across three grounds. After an intense league and semi-final stage, Rajarata Warriors and Wayamba Titans advanced to the grand final. In a thrilling contest, Rajarata Warriors successfully chased a target of 64 runs without losing a wicket, emerging as Champions of IESL Cricket Fiesta 2025—marking their second consecutive title victory

Individual brilliance was also recognised at the final presentation ceremony. Eng. Nuwan Chalitha of Sabare Strikers was named Best Bowler, Eng. Damith Jayasinghe of Uva Warriors won Best Batter, while Eng. Hasitha Jayasundara of Wayamba Titans was crowned Player of the Tournament for his outstanding all-round performance

Beyond competition, the event offered vibrant entertainment with DJ music and live papare performances, creating a festival atmosphere for participants and spectators alike. The strong support of sponsors and the dedication of the organising committee ensured a seamless and memorable experience.

Concluding the event, IESL leaders reaffirmed the importance of such initiatives in strengthening bonds among engineers across the country. The IESL Cricket Fiesta 2025 stood as a celebration of sportsmanship, resilience, and unity—demonstrating that engineers not only build the nation, but also build lasting connections beyond the workplace.
